Snapshot
- A total of 10,063 vehicles affected
- Potential of alternator failure could immobilise the car
- Mercedes-Benz is currently contacting known owners
All Mercedes-Benz C200s sold between 2014 and 2015 have been placed under recall in Australia, the widest for the model so far.
Affecting a total of 10,063 units, Mercedes-Benz has issued the recall due to a potential for alternator failure under certain conditions, possibly leading to a fire in the car's engine bay.
Not only can this drain the vehicle's battery, but it can also cause further damage within the engine bay, with the ability to spread to the rest of the car – which would put occupants at risk.
Mercedes-Benz is currently in the process of contacting known owners to notify them of the issue, offering to carry out the necessary work free of charge.
Owners who are unsure about whether their car is affected can contact an authorised Mercedes-Benz dealership or book a service online.
Over the two-year period under recall, a total of 15,218 Mercedes-Benz C-Class models were sold – with the recall affecting just under two-thirds of the wider model.
