2018 Toyota RAV4: Active safety now standard across all models

Navigation and camera-based active safety technology including automatic emergency braking has been added to the list of standard specification across the entire Toyota RAV4 range.

The 2018 model year update upgrades the entry-level GX, and GXL with a safety pack previously exclusive to the range-topping Cruiser, including a pre-collision system, autonomous emergency braking, lane-departure alert, active cruise control and automatic high beam.

The GX also gains navigation, Toyota Link connected mobility, digital radio, dusk-sensing headlights, fog lamps and a high-grade instrument cluster that incorporates a 4.2-inch multi-information display.

All of the above features were previously a $3800 option on automatic GX variants but are now standard (including manual), though the associated price rises significantly less with the GX petrol FWD models increasing by $900, the petrol and diesel AWD variants are $840 and $2350 more expensive respectively.

The inclusion of the safety pack as standard in the GXL previously brought a minor price rise of $40 and $100 to the GXL petrol FWD and AWD, with the diesel AWD up by $1575.

GLX versions also gain blind spot monitor and rear cross traffic that was previously fitted to the Cruiser only. There’s also a $2500 premium interior option for the GXL that adds 10-way adjustable power-operated leather-trimmed driver's seat with two-position memory and front seat heaters.

The Cruiser meanwhile has had its price reduced by $910 for the petrol variant (diesel price unchanged) and retains its premium features including 18-inch alloy wheels, leather-accented trim, 11-speaker JBL audio, tilt-and-slide panoramic sunroof and a power-operated tailgate.
