A replica of the dog-inspired van famously referred to as the “Shaggin’ Wagon” from the 1994 comedy hit Dumb and Dumber has recently sold at RM Sotheby’s in the United States for $27,500 (AU$37,300).
Similar in pop culture fame to Steve McQueen’s Bullitt Mustang, the DeLorean DMC-12 from Back to the Future, Smokey and the Bandit’s Pontiac Trans Am and the Ford Falcon XB GT from Mad Max – the classic ‘Mutt Cutts’ grooming service van has led to a massive craze of replicas in the United States, where vehicle modifications to this extent are largely legal.

Based on a 1987 Ford Econoline E-150 Chateau van, the clone features a V8 engine mated to a four-speed automatic transmission, with a not-so-spritely 791,221 kilometres on the odometer seen in the ad listing – in addition to a prior accident at some stage over its prolonged lifetime.
While highly impractical, the van is covered in shag carpeting inside and out, with ‘Mutt Cutts’ exterior signage. It also has the face of a dog up front – in addition to an interior decorated with a number of classic scenes from the film.
As part of the sale, the van was accompanied by an operational replica of the minibike it was later traded for in the movie.

Ten movie cars we really want to drive
To celebrate the coming release of Skyfall we've pulled together a list of ten movie cars that we'd really, really love to drive. Really. Ten great machines that stole the show from their overpaid and overpampered human co-stars. Cars that took over the big-screen and filled our dreams for months afterwards. Cars we'd sell our mothers for a chance to drive. Maybe.
