Tesla recently updated its mobile application for Apple iPhones – offering users improved management, new features, and real-time animations.
Acting like a remote control for your Tesla, the app allows users direct access to a car’s climate control, doors and windows, and even the horn – and owners can also check out information such as their vehicle’s location and its driving range.
Australian YouTuber Tesla Tom has given a walkthrough of the new Version 4.0.1 update while in the seat of this Model 3, giving our best look yet at the updated interface.
Perhaps the party trick of the new Tesla app is the image of the car shown from the top, which provides a real-time visual representation of the owner’s actual vehicle. In Tom’s case, he’s able to show the doors open and close on the app as he does it.

But it’s not just electric cars – Tom also demonstrates how he can check his home’s electricity usage through his Tesla Powerwall battery system, giving a current display of where his household energy is being sourced from – as well as providing historical data.
One Tesla owner told WhichCar the improvements are welcome: “It’s a significant update – the screen is a vast improvement over the previous version.
“The fact, that I can unlock and start my car from my phone means I can loan it to a family member or a colleague – even if I’m in a different location or stuck in a meeting. And the animated green charging cable also means I can check to make sure it’s been plugged-in correctly.”
