Jerry Seinfeld is known for his funny jokes, so when we found out he planned on selling 16 Porsches from his million dollar car collection, plus a few Volkswagens, we were waiting for the punch line.
But this week we discovered his decision to clear space in his garage and let some other car-nuts enjoy his possessions actually happened over the weekend at Amelia Island, Gooding & Co auction. It was no joke.
18 cars were rolled out at the auction, of which 17 sold for a grand total of US$22,244,500, falling below the estimated US$30 million.
Seinfeld’s Porsche 550 Spyder had the highest selling value of US$5,335,000, while his 2000 Porsche Carrera GT Prototype remained unsold.
Also included in the list were two Volkswagens including a Beetle and Camper – both of which sold for a lot more than we’d have expected at US$121,000 and US$99,000 respectively.
