WITH the XC40’s victory in the 56th running of Wheels Car of the Year, Volvo has gone from a winless streak of over half a century to becoming one of just six brands to win back-to-back gongs (and the only luxury brand to do so).

There was some tough competition taking on the Volvo for the 2019 Car of the Year title.
Toughest was the Subaru Forester, which was a COTY darkhorse that turned into a worthy runner-up.
Jaguar’s I-Pace was a favourite following two days at the proving ground, and a worthy finalist which has propelled the almost century old British manufacturer straight to the front of the electric revolution.
Meanwhile Alpine’s delightful A110 had the judges clamouring for the keys during testing, with the team praising its dynamic prowess.
For the budget conscious, Volkswagen’s Polo hatch was lauded for its value for money.
