2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS spied

Porsche is readying a new GT2 RS, which is set to be the fastest and most powerful 911 ever.

Whilst still unconfirmed by Stuttgart, the GT2's twin-turbo nature is given away by the engine's muffled blare, while the lightning-quick gearshifts are evidence that a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox has replaced the traditional six-speed manual.

It's unclear which engine will power the GT2 RS, whether it's a Porsche Motorsport-developed twin-turbo version of the GT3 RS's 4.0-litre or a modified version of the 3.8-litre twin-turbo flat-six found in the 911 Turbo.

In Turbo S guise that engine produces 427kW/750Nm, but we'd expect at least 470kW from the new GT2 RS, if only to put clear air between it and the previous generation GT2 RS, which produced 456kW/700Nm, and possibly as much as 520kW.

Porsche Motorsport boss Andreas Preuninger has said the GT2 RS will appear towards the end of the current generation 911's life, which points to a late-2018 debut.
