2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS will have 520kW, 750Nm

PORSCHE'S incoming performance flagship will punch out a stratospheric 520kW of power and 750Nm of torque from its 3.8-litre twin-turbo flat six, a report by sister publication Motor reveals.

It was already expected that the 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS, the latest interpretation of Porsche’s savage “Widowmaker”, would be the most powerful 911 ever, but just how much more power it would have over the current record holder – the 456kW 997-generation GT2 RS – wasn’t clear.

When Wheels went for a prototype ride-along with Andreas Preuninger, head of Porsche’s GT vehicles, the only clue we could coax out was that the new GT2 RS would generate “more than” 650hp – or 485kW.

But we can now rest easy in the knowledge that the wildest 911 to date will eclipse its predecessor by a handy 64kW.

Zero-to-hundred will take 2.9 seconds, not an amazing figure for a Porsche given the AWD 911 Turbo S achieves the same feat, but considering the GT2 RS is rear-driven, that’s an impressive turn of speed.

And the speed keeps piling on. While the last GT2 RS hit 200km/h in 9.8 seconds, its successor will reach the same velocity in less than nine seconds. V-max is a claimed 350km/h, which is huge for a car wearing such aggressive aero.

And speaking of wings, the various aerofoils festooning the GT2 RS’ form will generate up to 350kg of grip-enhancing downforce to help balance out its unusual 39:61 front-rear weight distribution.
