- Potential fault could disable certain safety features
- Recall only affects FN Mustang GTs with manual transmissions
- Total of 2304 units recalled
Ford Australia has issued a recall notice for its Mustang GT, with certain examples of the pony car impacted by a potential fault.
Affecting a total of 2304 examples of the FN-generation Mustang GT V8 manual built between May 17, 2018, and December 3, 2020, an issue with the manual gear position sensor could disable certain features of the car, according to Ford.
"In the affected vehicles, the manual gear position sensor may be causing the rear-view camera display, reverse lamps, and various driver assist features (traction control, forward collision warning, blind-spot warning, and cross-traffic indicator) to stop functioning," said a spokesperson for Ford Australia.
"If the modules controlling the rear-view camera, reverse lamps, and other driver assist features receive a faulted gear position sensor signal from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM), they may disable those features.
"An instrument cluster warning light may illuminate along with a message indicating function is not available. Dealers will reprogram the PCM software on all affected vehicles at no charge to the vehicle owner. Ford will be writing to relevant customers regarding this recall."
Owners who are unsure as to whether their vehicle is affected can enter their VIN on Ford's recall search page.
Ford has clarified the recall does not affect the 10-speed automatic equipped Mustang GT or the four-cylinder High Performance variants.
