  • Mercedes-Benz recalls 204 C-Class units made last year
  • Potential software issue causes the engine to turn off
  • Recall is the fifth for the C-Class since September 2021

Mercedes-Benz has issued a recall notice for its 2021 C-Class, owing to a potential engine software issue.

Affecting just 204 units – a touch under five per cent of the 4603 C-Class vehicles sold last year – the fault causes the car's engine to turn off without warning, also preventing it from restarting.

If this occurs on the road, it could be potentially dangerous to the occupants and other road users, leaving the vehicle stranded with no way to move out of traffic while also disabling the steering and brakes.

Since September 2021, various generations of the C-Class have been involved in five recalls, stretching from windscreen issues, SOS system failures, infotainment glitches and diesel engine problems.

Mercedes-Benz says it will contact owners to rectify the problem as soon as possible and free of charge at their most convenient dealer.

Alternatively, owners who are unsure as to whether their vehicle is affected can contact Mercedes-Benz's customer assistance centre on 1300 300 896 or customerassistancecentre@daimler.com.
