Snapshot
- 1365 vehicles affected
- Only WorkMate and SR cab-chassis on notice
- Toyota will rectify the issue for free
Toyota Australia has issued a recall for a handful of its 2021 HiLux models, with a potential airbag system failure triggering the notice.
Affecting a total of 1365 vehicles made between late August and late October 2021, it only covers WorkMate and SR cab-chassis variants, both of which are two-door, two-seat grades.
According to Toyota, an improper setting of production equipment means the front passenger airbag may not deploy in the event of a collision, potentially injuring the occupants further.
Due to the fault being a system error, Toyota says this fix will only require the recalibration of its occupant classification systems, something which can be done in around 30 minutes and free of charge.
In addition to asking owners to keep their contact details up to date with Toyota, the manufacturer has asked anyone with further enquiries to either contact their preferred dealer or the Toyota Recall Campaign Helpline on 1800 987 366 (Mon-Fri 8.00am-6.00pm AEDT), quoting their 17-digit VIN.
