Snapshot
- New Kluger seat-back frames not manufactured to ADR requirements
- Total of 5417 vehicles affected
- Toyota is contacting owners
The 2021 Toyota Kluger has been recalled, with the fourth-generation SUV's front seats not meeting Australian Design Rule (ADR) requirements.
Affecting a total of 5417 Toyota Klugers sold since the new model debuted last year, an apparent manufacturing issue means the front seat-back frames were not manufactured with the minimum radius criteria to meet the requirements of the Australian Design Rule (ADR 3/03).
While this could present itself as a safety risk to occupants in the event of an accident, the more immediate issue is that none of Toyota's 2021 Klugers are compliant with the ADR.
Toyota has confirmed it will contact owners in writing to request an appointment at their preferred dealer to rectify the issue, free of charge.
Alternatively, any affected owners of 2021 Klugers can use Toyota's online booking service to arrange an inspection.
