Key Points
- New Haval H6 plug-in hybrid launched in Thailand
- Claimed all-electric driving range of 201 kilometres
- Combined power and torque output of 240kW/530Nm
Haval's latest H6 SUV has been launched in Thailand, featuring a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) drivetrain which offers a significant boost over the upcoming H6 Hybrid.
Still retaining the 1.5-litre, turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine under the bonnet, the Haval H6's combustion engine is paired with an electric motor to provide combined power and torque outputs of 240kW and 530Nm – a 61kW increase over the conventional hybrid.
Although it offers more power and far more torque than most hot hatches, drive is sent exclusively to the front wheels through a dual-clutch automatic transmission, electronically controlled to provide the best balance of power from the combustion engine and electric motor.
Despite the hefty power and torque figures, Haval claims the H6 PHEV has an all-electric driving range of up to 201 kilometres on the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC), thanks to a rumoured 41.8kWh battery pack, also found in the Wey Coffee 01, which uses the Lemon platform.
Apart from some front-end tweaks, which includes a larger grille, the looks and equipment of the H6 PHEV are identical to the Hybrid, riding on 19-inch alloys and with a host of modern features inside.
As with the recently-revealed Jolion Hybrid, the H6 PHEV isn't expected to be given a local berth just yet, with a spokesperson for the Chinese manufacturer telling Wheels it was focusing on the H6 Hybrid's Australian debut.
"At this stage, we have no firm plans to add the H6 plug-in hybrid to the Australian line-up," said the spokesperson.
