The 2022 Mercedes-AMG C63 S E Performance has been filmed undergoing testing in Germany.
As announced in March, the next C63 will move to a turbocharged four-cylinder plug-in hybrid powertrain, with Mercedes-AMG confirming it will produce more than 480kW – a healthy bump over the current model’s 375kW twin-turbo V8 engine.
The video, shot in and around the famous Nürburgring circuit by YouTube channel CarSpyMedia, provides our best preview of what the new electrified C63 will sound like.
Given the 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine is a highly-tuned version of the unit found in the AMG A45 S hot hatch, it should be no surprise the two models share a similar exhaust note.

With the petrol engine producing more than 330kW on its own, the extra performance will be supplied from a 150kW/320Nm electric motor powering the rear axle.
“Our concept is rather new and focused on getting performance into a hybrid powertrain,” head of electric powertrains Jochen Schmitz told MOTOR’s sister publication Wheels back in March.
“[We wanted to prioritise] racetrack usage and stuff like that into this hybrid system. Many of the well-known parallel P2 hybrids aren’t focused on performance, they’re more focused on [driving] range or other stuff, so it was on us to go this new way completely on our own.”
