The 2023 Cupra Formentor VZx – a Wheels Car of the Year finalist – has a new red paint finish.
However, there's a caveat: it will be limited to 30 units locally, in a special edition variant dubbed 'Rojo', the Spanish word for red.
While 'desire red' is available on the entry-level Formentor V (and Leon V), Cupra's flagship series – VZ, VZe and VZx – is restricted to white, black, dark blue and a range of grey finishes in Australia.
"You never want a customer seeing red, but the determination of a prospective Cupra buyer to own a flagship-grade Formentor VZx in no shade but that, was partly responsible for the… Rojo edition," said Cupra Australia.
"A highly-motivated customer has written to myself and Cupra's global boss, Wayne Griffiths, over their disappointment that the Formentor VZx hasn't been available in red," added brand director, Ben Wilks.
As standard, the Formentor VZx Rojo will be fitted with a panoramic sunroof and black Nappa leather upholstery, replacing petrol blue.
It is priced from $66,490 before on-road costs or $71,490 drive-away nationally – $500 more than a standard Formentor VZx with the optional $2100 panoramic sunroof.
Without the panoramic sunroof, the Formentor VZx retails for $63,990 plus on-roads, following a $2000 price hike in January.
Cupra said the Formentor VZx is its top-selling variant in Australia.
The 2023 Cupra Formentor VZx Rojo is available to order today, with local deliveries due in May or June.
