UPDATE, July 26: Ford Australia secures further supply of Ranger Sport and Wildtrak V6, in production from fourth quarter
Ford Australia has secured further supply of the new-generation Ranger, due to strong demand for the flagship V6 diesel grades.
The additional 2023 Ford Ranger units will commence production in the fourth quarter of the year (October to December inclusive), consisting of the Sport and Wildtrak – including the premium pack – with the popular 3.0-litre turbo-diesel V6 engine.
A spokesperson for Ford Australia said the "incremental supply" is due to strong customer demand for the diesel V6, in order to reduce extended wait times aggravated by the semiconductor chip shortage and COVID-related supply chain disruptions.
In particular, the Wildtrak with premium pack is proving popular, leading to an estimated wait time of nine months. The additional supply should assist in reducing this wait, which is understood to be caused by a shortage of matrix LED headlights.
The twin-turbo petrol V6 Ranger Raptor features matrix lights as standard, with a similar indicative wait time.
“We’ve worked with our team to do everything possible to get as many Rangers, Ranger Raptors and Everests as we can to customers as soon as we can,” the spokesperson added.
“Global semi-conductor and COVID-related supply chain challenges, combined with very high demand for certain variants, mean some customers will unfortunately face extended waits.
“However, depending on the dealer, location and specifications, there is still some stock available, so we encourage customers to talk to their dealer.”
Earlier this month, Ford Australia CEO Andrew Birkic told Wheels roughly 5000 Rangers will arrive on local shores every month until the end of the year – potentially boosting sales by over 25,000 units.
The first examples of the 2023 Ford Ranger rolled into local Ford showrooms in mid-July. For more information, see below.

July 17: 2023 Ford Ranger deliveries to begin this week, 10,000 more expected over two months
The 2023 Ford Ranger is arriving in Australian dealerships this week, almost eight months on from its global reveal.
At today's local launch of the Ranger, Ford told media it was projecting an extra 10,000 examples of the model to land locally between now and September, representing a serious chunk of the 17,000 orders already placed.
While the flagship Raptor grade will be further delayed thanks to supply chain issues, the first examples of the new Ranger are currently rolling out onto Australian streets through the local dealership network.
UPDATE, July 2022: New Ford Ranger review – it's here at last
The new 2023 Ford Ranger is now on sale in Australia, and the local media launch has been run. The Wheels and 4x4 Australia teams have both driven the new Ranger, and you can find their stories at the links below.
Story continues...
Unveiled in November last year, the next-generation Ranger has proven popular with local buyers, especially the Raptor which has accounted for 4000 of the 17,000 orders despite its $85,490 price tag (before on-road costs).
Buyers are facing delays of up to eight months for the Wildtrak V6 with the optional Premium Pack – essentially the flagship grade until Raptor arrives and the top-spec diesel from the range – although Ford has told customers they can receive their order sooner if they forgo the optional pack.
Despite production of the outgoing Ranger winding up, the model is still the third-most popular new car in Australia, having recorded 19,794 sales to the halfway point of 2022, however last month was particularly tough as its 2802 June deliveries was a 54 per cent drop on the same month last year.
