The 2023 Tesla Model 3 and 2023 Tesla Model Y electric cars are now more affordable than ever.

Tesla has revised pricing across its lineup from today, July 1, as a revised luxury car tax threshold for fuel-efficient vehicles comes into force for the 2023-24 financial year.

The Federal Government’s luxury car tax (LCT) applies to ‘fuel-efficient vehicles’ (any model with less than 7.0L/100km combined fuel consumption, including EVs) priced beyond $89,332 – a $4416, or 4.9 per cent increase, compared to the last financial year.

The entry-level Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive is now listed at $57,400 before on-road costs – beating its previous $59,990 low between July 2021 and March 2022.

Meanwhile, the mid-spec Model 3 Long Range AWD is down $3900 to $70,400 plus on-roads, and the Performance AWD range-topper has reduced by $5155 to $83,400 – falling below the LCT threshold.

Both the Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive and Long Range AWD have decreased by $3900, while the flagship Performance AWD is down $6395 to $92,560, including the luxury car tax.

The latest pricing adjustment follows up and down changes for the Model 3 and Model Y in May, with updated pricing listed on Tesla's consumer website.

VFACTS new-car sales data reveals the Model 3 is Australia's best-selling electric car and the highest-selling passenger vehicle.

To the end of May, 10,117 Model 3s were registered in Australia, putting the electric sedan in fifth place behind the Toyota HiLux, Ford Ranger, Isuzu D-Max and Toyota RAV4.

As for the Model Y, it is Australia's best-selling electric SUV, with 8442 registrations year-to-date. It is also the top-selling vehicle in its medium SUV over $60,000 segment.
