Alpine A110 Cup race car revealed

Just before the first global deliveries of the Alpine A110 Premiere Edition are set to go ahead, Alpine has announced a new race car based on the road-going A110.

Dubbed the Alpine A110 Cup, the car will also have its own FIA racing series, called the Alpine Europa Cup.

The cars will weigh approximately 1050kg, and each will run on a 1.8-litre four pot motor, mounted in the mid-rear and sending its 201kW to the rear wheels.

They’ll be running with various Michelin slicks and semi-slicks, as well as Öhlins dampers and Brembo brakes behind 18-inch aluminium wheels.

With design and development of the A110 Cup being carried out by FIA WEC entrant Signatech, the cars will be merely “based on an overall framework defined by Alpine.”

Signatec managing director Philippe Sinault says the development of the cars has not yet been completed, but says it will be “uncompromising” in regards to its features.

“Before a field of twenty or so A110 Cups line up at the Circuit Paul Ricard, we still have a lot of work to do, with the development and then production of the cars.

“It's an exciting challenge, both for Signatech and for Alpine.”

Registration for the Alpine Europa Cup, which Alpine says was inspired by the similar Europa Cup held between 1985 and 1988, will cost €20,000 on top of the €100,000 it will cost to buy a car, and the estimated ‘less than €100,000’ of running costs through the season.

In Australian dollars, that could end up totalling $335,000, which isn’t incredibly expensive in the grand scheme of motorsports.
