As Aston Martin’s DB9 trundles towards retirement, the recently revealed DB9 GT shows it will be doing so on a high note.
Shown ahead of its official debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the DB9 GT brings more power, cosmetic tweaks, and an upgraded multimedia system to the iconic Aston.
Extra grunt is extracted from a 6.0-litre V12 that’s been tickled to produce 397kW at 6750rpm and 620Nm at 5500rpm – or 17kW more than the standard car.
Matched to the engine is Aston’s rear-mounted six-speed automatic transmission, both helping to lop 0.2sec off its 0-100km/h dash which is now over in 4.4sec.
New ten-spoke 20-inch wheels feature on the car’s exterior which are complimented by black splitters front and rear along with tweaked head and tail lights. GT-exclusive details like black brake calipers and an engraved fuel filler cap further set the GT apart from its standard brethren.
Owners will be reminded of their GT’s exclusivity on the inside, where GT embroidery stitched on to unique Glen Coe ‘fluted’ leather and an alcantara steering wheel ups the car’s exclusive ambience.
The only real update the GT introduces is the new touch AMi II infotainment system which the brand claims to feature a new simplified user interface. The system has also been gifted to the 2016 model year V8 Vantage and Rapide S.
What we can next expect from Gaydon in the DB9 GT's wake is speculated to be its replacement (conjecture debates whether it will be the DB10 or DB11) that’s due to be unveiled at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show.
Good news is the DB9 GT will land in Australia in both coupe and convertible form as confirmed by The Motor Report. However the bad news is it’ll attract a rather hefty premium, commanding an extra $19K over the current model at $368,500 for the coupe and $399,500 for the convertible.
