BMW’s hot M2 hasn’t even landed but it’s proved so popular the firm’s had to secure an extra batch to satisfy local demand.

An extra 100 units have been marked for Down Under after Australia’s initial 300 cars sold out.

These extra M2s will begin their journey here soon as July, with a two-month lead time ensuring the majority of cars will be registered here before the year’s end.

Australia’s love for the manual transmission has resurged in the M2’s ranks too, with 25 per cent of buyers so far asking for a self-shifter M2. This comes in a dramatic contrast to the M3/M4 range, where only one percent of cars sold are equipped with a manual.

Marc Werner, BMW Australia CEO, was proud his company could secure an extra 33 per cent of M2s. “We’re delighted to be able to respond to Australian customer and market demand so quickly with these extra vehicles,” he said in a press release.

Order books are open now for the M2.
