BMW Australia announces 5-year warranty

BMW Australia has announced that all of its new vehicles will now be sold with a five-year unlimited kilometre warranty.

The move brings the company in line with rivals such as Audi and Mercedes-Benz in offering a sixty-month deal.

Although the official date from which the warranty takes effect is November 1st 2022, BMW Group Australia will also extend the validity period and offer the new warranty to customers who purchased a new BMW, MINI or BMW motorcycle on or after October 1, 2022.

While it’s hard to quantify how much a three-year warranty has affected BMW’s bottom line in 2022, it’s clear that more proactive rivals rivals have seen marked lifts in sales.

BMW cited a tight global supply situation for vehicle components and pandemic-related lockdowns in China, particularly during the first half of the year, as reasons for its third-quarter automobile sales totalling 587,744 units. 0.9 percent down on the same period the previous year.

By contrast, Mercedes-Benz, which moved to a five-year deal in 2022, shifted some 530,000 cars during Q3 of 2022, an improvement of 38 per cent over the same period in 2021. Audi’s numbers were up by 12.7 percent over the same period, lifting from 368,020 units to 414,688.
