Right now in Germany someone's selling the BMW Z4 coupe from hell.
You’ll need Google Translate’s help to read the EBay listing, but there’s no mistaking the numbers and letters ‘8.3-litre V10’.
That’s right, crammed into this black-on-black Z4’s bonnet is the beating heart from a Dodge Viper SRT.
But wait, there are more figures. Specifically, 410kW and 750Nm pushing 1400kg when the car’s dry – a formula for swear words in any language.
There’s no story on the engine swap, but we suspect BMW’s own 5.0-litre V10 from the M5 might have been hard to find. Or its SMG-transmission hard to consider. This has a Tremec six-speed manual.
Either way, fitting that huge V10 in the Z4’s long nose was always going to be hard. It apparently required a custom radiator, propshaft, exhaust manifolds, half-shafts, and various body parts to do so.
Amazingly, though, the seller’s managed to keep this ride street registered. So you can do the milk-run while surrounded by race seats, roll-cage, and six-point harnesses.
There aren’t any interior panels, mind you, and anything above 3800rpm will open its exhaust flaps to unleash its devilish symphony on your neighbours.
But we don’t think anyone will be using this thing anywhere but a racetrack. After all, there’s a reason it’s packing the six-pot Brembos from an Audi R8.
You’ll have to travel to Saarbucken to find it and bring with you AUD$73K to leave with it. Which is quite a bit of money, but as the translated description puts it: “Absolute single piece that worldwide there are only 1x.”
Better get clicking.
