FRANKFURT 2009: 2010 Volkswagen Golf R20

Last year at the Passat R36 launch, we hinted that the next Golf R32 may drop its namesake 3.2-litre six for a turbocharged or twin-charged four. While some readers flatly refused to see it, the changing times have guaranteed a different R-line Golf for 2010

The next R32, not called the R20, will remain an all-wheel-drive car, but with the 2.0-litre turbocharged four from the top-shelf Scirocco developing 198kW and 350Nm.

Predicted 0-100km/h times should be around the GTI, with 6.5 seconds with a six-speed manual, and a typically quicker 6.4 seconds for the DSG. Zero to 400m should be more impressive.
