Mounting pressure from enthusiasts has helped lead Ford Australia to officially offer Mountune Performance modifications with warranty support for Fiesta and Focus ST.
Available in Europe for some time on both Sport Technologies hot-hatchbacks, the dealer-fitted performance-enhancing hardware boosts power and torque for both considerably.
The $25,990 Fiesta ST moves from 134kW to 158kW at 6000rpm, and from 240Nm to a Polo GTI-matching 320Nm at 3000rpm, for a recommended retail price of $2328 extra.
The $38,990 Focus ST shifts from 184kW to 202kW at 6000rpm, and from 360Nm to a properly honking 400Nm at just 2750rpm, with a recommended retail price totaling $4135.
MOTOR has previously achieved 0-100km/h acceleration times of 6.97 seconds for the smaller three-door ST and 6.4sec for the larger five-door ST, so expect solid improvements for both.
Sadly there is no sign of a mechanical limited-slip differential for the Focus ST, which in particular can already suffer torque steer and some power-down issues in standard guise.
Both Fords include Mountune Performance badging and revised engine calibration, although the Fiesta ST only adds a new porous lower feed hose, custom aluminium high-flow airbox with dual cold air feeds and high-flow panel air filter. The Focus ST gets a large-capacity alloy intercooler, cast crossover duct and dual-entry air filter.
Ford Australia says the Mountune Performance products have been tested firstly in Britain then by local engineers at the company’s Lara proving ground outside of Melbourne.
If the kits, which will take one hour to fit on a Fiesta and two hours for a Focus, are added at point of sale they will be covered by Ford’s official three-year/100,000km warranty. If they are added to a vehicle later, they will be covered by the remainder of the new-car warranty or a 12-month/20,000km accessories warranty – whichever is longer.
MOTOR has tested a similar Mountune performance kit on the Fiesta ST added privately by Herrod Motorsport here.
