The curvy new GWM Ora electric hatch has had its prices slashed just weeks after the MG 4 and BYD Dolphin barged in as Australia's most affordable EVs.
Snapshot
- GWM Ora EV pricing now below $40k!
- New drive-away pricing also revealed
- New GWM Ora Ultra grade joins the line-up
- Free charging station thrown in from July
The GWM Ora hatch, now priced from $39,990 before on-road costs – a reduction of $4000 – becomes a much more compelling rival to the $38,990 MG 4 and the $39,890 BYD Dolphin.
GWM credits the price cuts – announced just two months since Australian pricing was first revealed – to improvements in the cost of battery technology, and "other factors".
Those 'other factors' are likely to be related to MG initially confirming a $47,990 starting price for the MG 4 in April before cleverly slashing more than $8000 off the price by mid June. The Dolphin's pricing announcement a few days after the MG 4 will surely have left GWM with little choice but to conveniently discover some savings in its battery supply.
Wheels has asked GWM's local office for details on how many Ora EVs had been ordered before today's new pricing, and whether those customers will be offered these new lower prices. We'll update this story when we can.
The GWM Ora's new Australian pricing is detailed below. For the full equipment and specifications rundown, which is otherwise unchanged, see our initial pricing & features story published in June.

Free GWM charging station
From the start of July, GWM is boosting the Ora's appeal with a free wall-mounted charging station.
GWM says this launch offer will be extended to customers who have already placed an order for a GWM Ora, and is available to buyers who take delivery before the September 30th cut-off date (or while charger stocks last).
Valued at $1690, the 'level 2' wall unit can be connected to standard 240V single-phase power, offering a 7.2kW charging rate – up from the ~2kW rate out of a standard wall plug.
Improving on that 7.2kW would mean upgrading to three-phase power to get a 22kW rate. See our charging guide linked below.
