The next chapter in the AMG GT story will be written in 2016, with a higher performance model set to be unveiled around mid-year.
While not one of AMG's fabled Black Series models, the new sportier GT will offer the first glimpse of a higher-output version of AMG's latest 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8.
Currently rated at 375kW/650Nm in the GT S, AMG boss Tobias Moers confirmed the next evolution of the engine will produce well in excess of 400kW.
Torque will remain similar, as the current output of 650Nm is close to the reliable limit of the seven-speed dual-clutch transaxle, however Moers told MOTOR that more power at higher rpm will be the focus.
Along with a more focussed suspension setup, larger wheels and tyres and more aggressive aerodynamics such as those spotted on a prototype earlier this year the upgraded GT will provide a stern test for the likes of the Porsche 911 GT3.
