Ken Block is quite probably the world’s most famous gymkhana driver.
That’s not to say he’s the best, though a point could be made for that. Still, considering how famous he is, have you ever seen him tackle a completely off-road gymkhana?
If not, you have now – and it’s called Terrakhana.
With his trusty Ford Fiesta ST RX43 and Pennzoil sponsoring the video, you can imagine how much of Utah’s desert surface is going to be turned into clouds of dust.
The 450kW Fiesta was airborne on several occasions, though the sand didn’t provide as soft a landing as you might think. But a loose front bumper never stopped Block.
The Garrett turbocharged 2.0-litre four has a fair bit more kick than most Fiestas, and Hoonigan Racing says it’s capable of 0-100km/h in under 2 seconds.
Its also fitted with rallycross tyres.
Though not one of his ‘official’ Gymhkhana series, the almost five-minute long thrash around the desert features some of the most visually pleasing shots we’ve seen.
Or maybe that’s just the rally fans among us.
Highlights include the rather impressive ‘wall-ride’ at just 42 seconds into the video, though we see another one later on at 3:05 from a different angle.
The massive dust-storm at 2:30 is also pretty intense.
Of course, it is a sponsored video, so at the end Block pulls into a Pennzoil tent and has a look at some printed charts a man in a Pennzoil shirt shows him and points to.
We aren’t sure what the printout would even be.
However, we can forgive Pennzoil after the Dodge videos they’ve been bringing us…
