Koenigsegg’s mighty 1000kW/1371Nm One:1 ‘Megacar’ has suffered a huge accident during testing at the Nurburgring.

Having established the 0-300-0km/h record for production cars, the Swedish manufacturer has been testing at the ’Ring over the last two months ahead of an attempt on the production car lap record, currently held by the Porsche 918 Spyder.

In a statement released following the accident, Koenigsegg stated that the driver was taken to hospital but released later the same day and said the accident “is confirmation of just how difficult it is to drive at this level on the world’s ultimate proving ground.”

Record attempts at the Nurburgring were banned in early 2015 following a racing accident where a Nissan GT3 car became airborne, clearing the fence and killing a spectator. The ban was lifted in March 2016 following modifications to the track.
