Lamborghini has turned pieces of 3D-printed carbon fibre from space into keys that grant access to an exclusive, and yet to be revealed, NFT.

Named the Space Key, it’s a metal tablet containing a 3.2-gram square of composite carbon fibre that bears a QR code for a Non-Fungible Token from a currently undisclosed artist.

Both the artist's identity – and NFT's contents – will be revealed in the coming weeks before a run of five Space Keys go to auction.

As for the ‘Space’ part? Lamborghini says the European Space Agency took these carbon fibre pieces to the International Space Station that sits in low orbit from the Earth for a joint research project.

Since the Space Key’s unveiling, Lamborghini has been teasing its Twitter followers with the reveal of its first NFT, using the hashtag “#ToTheMoon” as a clue.

Lamborghini has teamed up with a company called NFTPRO to facilitate the auction of the five space keys, marking an another watershed moment for the industry.

Car manufacturers have trying to capture a slice of the ludicrous NFT market that has seen these block-chain verified digital artworks sell for as much as US$69m.
