A rare, custom-made Pagani Zonda owned by Lewis Hamilton has reportedly been sold, and for a tidy profit.
The seven-time Formula 1 World Champion is said to have parted with his Zonda 760LH – a rare example sporting a six-speed manual gearbox (rather than the dual-clutch of the 760RS), a purple interior and exterior, although it retains the iconic, Mercedes-AMG built 7.3-litre V12 engine.
According to Quattroruote, the most successful Grand Prix driver of all-time commissioned the build in 2014 prior to his second world title and first at current team, Mercedes, reportedly paying €1.4 million (AU$2.21m) for it at the time.
The Italian publication reports the car's new owner forked out €10m (AU$15.7m) for the privilege of owning the one-off Zonda, as Hamilton now looks to scale back his sizeable collection of vehicles to hybrid and fully-electric cars only.
Back in 2018, the Briton said the Zonda was one of the worst cars to drive with its standard transmission, hence his request for a manual 'box.
“The Zonda is terrible to drive! It’s the best-sounding car I own, but handling-wise it’s the worst,” he said. “I got it in manual because I didn’t like the tiptronic version.
“The tiptronic Pagani offered was worse than the Smart Roadster I had. I’m used to quick gearshifts, so I’m more critical than most customers. If you asked me to design my own supercar I’d have it manual.”
