About a year ago Lotus armed its Elise with frightening aero and motorsport-only bits to define the track-only Cup R.
Now it’s announced the 220 Cup, a road-registrable spin-off from the Cup R, is coming to Australia.
Formerly known as the Elise S Cup, the 220 Cup is the most extreme Elise Lotus offers Down Under.
Helping it achieve such a title is an aerodynamic package that’s very similar to the Cup R’s, sporting a huge rear diffuser further complemented by a front item, a large rear wing, and side skirts.
There’s also a fixed hardtop and rollover hoop protector to smooth airflow over the car.
The aero package’s claim to fame is that it helps the Elise 220 Cup produce “an additional” 66kg of downforce at 125km/h, and 125kg at 225km/h.
Acceleration halts at 225km/h, the speed which sees the 162kW/250Nm 1.8-supercharged Toyota sourced four-cylinder max out top gear. The six-speed transmission's borrowed from the shorter geared naturally aspirated Elise.
Times to 100km/h are claimed to be the same as the Elise S, at 4.6sec, despite the Cup 220 being weighing in at 943kg, or 19kg heavier.
The rest of its dynamic package is as per the Elise Club Racer, and includes adjustable anti-roll bars, bigger brakes, inside-wheel braking technology, and Yokohama AD07 semi-slicks.
With such track focus, the 220 Cup happily forgoes central locking, in car entertainment, and floor mats, but picks up SuedeTex interior trim.
Price for the Elise 220 Cup is set at $119,990, slotting it just under the Exige S, and the car is now available for order from dealers.
