A wild ' 63 AMG' version of Mercedes-Benz's new GLC SUV is under consideration, however the project is yet to receive the green light.
While some outlets have reported that the car is a done deal, AMG boss Tobias Moers stated that he is yet to be convinced there is a business case for a hi-po mid-size SUV.
"No decision made so far, still an open topic." said Moers at the international launch of the C63 Coupe. "There will be a GLC sport model from AMG, but the GLC 63, I don't know, is there a market?"
The sport model Moers refers to is the GLC450 AMG Sport, which will use the 270kW/500Nm 3.0-litre bi-turbo V6 currently found in the GLE450 and C450 models, the latter of which is due to land in Australia in early 2016.
A GLC 63 would use the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 found in the current C63 and AMG GT sports car, most likely with a softer state of tune than the 375kW/700Nm of the C63 S.
Such a car would currently be unique in its segment, a rung above the likes of Audi's SQ5, however with BMW considering an X4 M, should it come to fruition it may not have the market to itself for long.
