Mercedes-Maybach – the luxury off-shoot of Mercedes-Benz – could be planning its latest convertible model based on the AMG SL, with Daimler's head of design teasing its next concept online.
Having been revived as a sub-brand to Mercedes-Benz from its standalone state in 2015, the attention of Mercedes-Maybach has mainly been on uber-luxurious variants of Merc's S-Class in recent years, save for a few G-Wagen and GLS-based models.
However, Daimler's chief design officer Gorden Wagener has taken to Instagram to show off what could be its next offering – a Maybach-built SL convertible.
Based on the recently-launched Mercedes-AMG SL – which returns this year as a bespoke model from Merc's high-performance division – the Maybach model remains as nothing more than a concept for now, but Wagener's caption hints at there being more to come.
"A glimpse of the Concept Mercedes-Maybach SL – revealing more about future opportunities of our company’s most exclusive brand," his post reads.
"For customers who desire for a sophisticated luxury driving and design experience."
If it is launched as a production model, it won't be Maybach's first convertible, having revealed the 300 unit-run S650 Cabriolet at the 2016 Los Angeles Motor Show – 10 of which landed in Australia for roughly $600,000 each.
