MOTORSPORT can be cruel for racers and fans alike – just ask this pint-sized Kimi Raikkonen fan.
After an action packed start to the Spanish Grand Prix that saw Raikkonen crash out of the race at the very first corner after he collided with Valtteri Bottas and Max Verstappen, the television cameras cut to the crowd to show the die-hard Kimi fan – dressed from head-to-toe in Ferrari merch – bawling his eyes out.
The emotional youngster’s raw reaction struck a chord with commentators and fellow fans on social media, and it seems, someone in the Ferrari team too.
Whether it was a quick-thinking PR manager, or a stroke of genius from Formula 1’s new “fan friendly” management, plans were quickly put in place for the youngster to meet his favourite driver.
Soon the Kimi fan was back on our TV screens, this time inside the Ferrari motorhome and alongside Kimi, who posed for a photograph and gave the fan his hat.
Brilliant stuff, and we're sure an unforgettable day for the little youngster.
