Porsche's portfolio will expand with an electric SUV that's even larger than its Cayenne.
Snapshot
- Known as ‘K1’ internally; SSP underpinnings
- Seven seats and three rows expected
- All-electric Range Rover, BMW X7 rival
The Porsche Cayenne is due a deep facelift next year, following which the Stuttgart-based marque will add a larger SUV to its portfolio. Expect a release in 2026/27.
We haven’t seen pictures of the new car, however, we do know it will be the first vehicle under the Volkswagen Group umbrella to ride on the ‘SSP’ electric sports car architecture – which's more advanced than the Taycan’s 800-volt J1 platform.
Improvements in automated driving technology and excellent performance are promised for the new vehicle, all without sacrificing signature Porsche design language.
Inside, Porsche has promised the K1 will offer an all-new experience. The Taycan is a luxurious vehicle, but one more ultimately targeted at driver satisfaction.
With the K1, Porsche is looking to capitalise on emerging, luxury-driven markets that are clamouring for full-size Range Rovers, Bentley Bentaygas, and other ultra-luxury SUVs – as explained by Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board.
“We are thereby underlining and strengthening our sporty luxury positioning. We are observing growing profit pools in this segment, in particular in China and the US,” said Blume.
That would mean a vehicle longer (4.92 metres) and wider (1.98m) than the current Cayenne, potentially breaking the five-metre mark with a stretched wheelbase for greater occupant space.
The K1 is expected to be built in Leipzig and will form part of Porsche’s sustainability targets, those being carbon neutrality, and 80 per cent of its vehicle sales to be electric by 2030. Expect more news on the SSP platform and K1 SUV in the coming months.
