A madder version of the Renault Sport Clio will be unveiled at the Monaco Grand Prix later this week.
Renault has issued a single official image of the car that may be badged RS16, following the leak of several pictures on a Greek website.
There are no details yet, but reports say the special Clio RS will feature the mechanicals from the Megane RS – potentially with the 202kW power output of the quickest Megane, the 275. That would give it more power than the crazy mid-engined RS Clio V6 of 2001-2005.
If it also gets the Megane RS’s six-speed manual, it will become the first non-auto variant of the current Clio RS.
Renault’s only comment so far is from Renault Sport Cars MD Patrice Ratti.
“We successfully completed the project of a slightly crazy car,” Ratti said. “It was a joint effort by the Renault Sport Cars and Renault Sport Racing teams. This Clio RS refines the expertise of Renault Sport engineers whilst exploring new avenues for the future.”
The modified Clio RS features a prominent black rear wing, pumped up wheel-arches and fog lights designed like the Renault Sport logo.
The leaked images suggest the model may adopt the same RS16 decals as Renault Sport’s Formula One car.
The 2016 F1 Monaco GP gets underway Thursday 26th May.
