Tesla has been forced to recall more than 20,000 units of its Model Y in China, owing to suspension failures for the relatively-new vehicle.
Chinese produced examples of the Tesla Model Y built between February 4, 2021, and October 30, 2021, are affected, covering a total of 21,599 vehicles which rolled off the Shanghai production line.
According to ChinaPEV, the recall has been issued thanks to a number of suspension failures for Model Ys, with numerous examples found to have front and rear steering knuckles, which don't meet design requirements.
The potentially faulty knuckles could result in a drastic change in suspension geometry while driving, posing an immediate danger to the car's occupants and anyone around it.
It's not yet known whether this will increase wait times on the Model Y to Australia, with the new electric SUV initially expected to go on sale locally earlier this year before semiconductor related delays pushed its arrival back to the first quarter of next year.
In August, three Model Ys were found to have arrived on Australian shores, although it's not known whether these vehicles were imported for homologation, crash testing or educational purposes.
