TESLA’S enigmatic CEO has hinted at an upcoming performance boost for the Tesla Model S P100D and Model X P100D
Communicating via Twitter, Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk revealed that an Easter Egg hidden in a future software update for P100D models will “uncork the full performance” of Tesla’s fastest vehicles.
Both P100D models are already Tesla’s top-tier offerings when it comes to sheer performance stats, with the Model S P100D claimed to hit 100km/h in a supercar-shaming 2.7 seconds. The larger Model X P100D isn’t far behind, with a 0-100km/h time of 3.1 seconds.
But Musk’s tweet is somewhat vague, for the word ‘performance’ means different things to different people. Is he talking about straight-line acceleration, or a torque vectoring tweak to boost handling, or even an improvement in range?
Timing for the update has yet to be confirmed too. As for how to enable its performance-enhancing effects, well, that’s for Tesla to know and you to find out.
Previous Tesla Easter eggs have mostly concentrated on cute display animations and pop culture references, such as the Autopilot Rainbow Road easter egg that recalled the classic Nintendo game Mario Kart, or the Star Wars hyperspace easter egg that was hidden on vehicles equipped with the Ludicrous Speed upgrade.
This next performance-focused Easter egg, however, appears to be the first one to actually make a noticeable difference to how the vehicle performs.
Including Luxury Car Tax the Model S P100D retails in Australia for $241,762, putting it in the same league as the Mercedes-AMG CLS63, Audi RS7 Sportback and BMW M5 Competition. The Tesla Model X P100D is slightly cheaper at $238,772.
