WHAT a week for automotive enthusiasts! There have been so many ripping stories in the past seven days, you could be forgiven for missing some of them.
So whether you were too busy to get all the goss, had no internet, or were perhaps literally living under a rock, we’ve got your back. Here’s some of our best stories from this week on Wheelsmag.com.au to ensure you can still hold your own at the pub this weekend.
The stories have been wild and varied, and kicked off with the auction of the last saleable Ford Falcon. When the hammer finally fell, the XR6 sedan was sold for $81,500. Whether that is a sound investment, only time will tell.
There was also plenty of motorsport action, from Tim Slade’s mega World Time Attack Challenge lap, to a wild overtake from fourth to first by Kevin Eriksson in World Rallycross.
Speaking of motorsport, six-time Supercars champion Jamie Whincup teed off in a big way, slamming the category for playing dirty in the media over his team’s Bathurst 1000 appeal.
On that subject, Holden confirmed to Wheels it would not repeat Ford’s faux pas and close its Elizabeth manufacturing plant next year in the same week as Bathurst.
In tech news, Tesla came out swinging in the self-driving car race, confirming that every car that rolls off its production line from now on will be fitted with the hardware necessary for fully autonomous driving. The software will come later.
