Speeding excuse number 789566 ...

A 20-year-old Melbourne driver has come up with an imaginative if ultimately unsuccessful excuse for driving at 62km/h above the 50km/h speed limit in suburban Templestowe.

The female driver told police who pulled her over for speeding at 112km/h that she was wearing high heels and her foot slipped on the throttle of her mum's borrowed BMW coupe. Cough.

The rozzers were unimpressed (just like her mother, no doubt), handing her infringement notices in relation to traffic offences.

The BMW was impounded for 48 hours under the anti-hoon legislation and the driver's licence has also been parked for a time.
