It seems that not a week passes without the WCW team having to mark the passing of another global motoring demigod. Austrian engineer and German-brand heavy hitter Ferdinand Piech died this week, giving us the opportunity to look back at his influence over a long and colourful career.
Among the countless cars that Piech has a stake in you’ll find the 1980 Audi Ur Quattro, Porsche 917 and even the Bugatti Veyron. And as if that wasn’t enough, he was instrumental in making Audi and Volkswagen the global heavyweights that they are today.
It’s also worth mentioning another car that Piech championed – the Volkswagen Phaeton. The German brand’s luxo pioneer struggled to garner a significant audience despite having many good attributes. And there are plenty of other examples that litter automotive history.
Andy, Dan and Scott chat about their favourite cars that nobody bought. Which Volkswagen does Dan secretly lust after? What hot hatch does Scotty wish had a better run? And Andy nominates a high-performance Honda.
Tune in to find out which cars they discuss, the solution to future fine car flops, and much more.
