Audi recalls 700 cars from A and Q line-ups over seatbelt warning fault

Audi Australia is recalling more than 700 cars from its range of A and Q line-ups due to a fault with the seatbelt warning system.

The German manufacturer has issued a notice for 702 examples of its A4, A5, A6, Q7 and Q8 ranges built between 2018 and 2021.

The fault, according to the Department for Infrastructure, lies with the seatbelt warning, which may operate continuously when a seatbelt is not fastened or is unfastened while the vehicle is moving.

Perhaps more worryingly, the alert may also not sound at all, leaving the driver unaware a seatbelt is not on when it should be.

In the event of an accident this may result in injury or death to an unrestrained occupant.
