Toyota Australia has issued a recall for its best-selling HiLux ute after a fault with its passenger seat occupant sensor was identified.
The problem affects 1367 MY21 HiLux utes.
According to the Department for Infrastructure that issued the recall, the sensor may not meet manufacturing specifications.
This sensor is used to detect if the seat is occupied and determine whether to deploy the passenger airbag in the event of an accident. If the sensor does not operate as intended, it may result in an airbag not deploying when required and could cause serious injury or death to the occupant.
A list of VINs for the vehicles involved can be found here.
Owners of affected vehicles can contact Toyota and make an appointment at their preferred Toyota dealer for inspection and, if required, calibration of the occupant sensor, free of charge.
