The 2022 Hyundai i20N eagerly anticipated hot hatch has gone on sale in Australia, priced from $32,490 before on-road costs.
Korea’s latest offering will set local buyers back $200 more than the i20N’s main rival, the Ford Fiesta ST, which starts from $32,290 plus on-road costs.
However, while the i20N may cost slightly more than its Blue Oval counterpart, on paper, it’s more powerful, faster, and lighter.

Engine, transmission, and performance
The i20N is powered by Hyundai’s turbocharged Gamma II 1.6-litre T-GDi four-cylinder petrol engine, which is good for 150kW and 275Nm.
Drive is sent to the front wheels exclusively through a six-speed manual transmission and a mechanical limited-slip differential.
The 0-100km/h sprint is taken care of in a claimed 6.7 seconds, and flat-out, the i20N will reach a top-speed of 230km/h.
So, compared to its main rival, the i20N will have 3kW more power than the Fiesta ST (147kW). However, the Ford counters with 45Nm more torque (320Nm).
The i20N’s 0-100km/h time outguns the previous Fiesta ST's acceleration time, which Motor has previously clocked at 6.9 seconds, but that may change with the extra torque of the new ST.
Other performance features of the i20N include an active variable exhaust, N selectable driving mode system, N performance driving data system, performance brake package, rev-matching function, 18-inch alloy wheels, and Pirelli P-Zero tyres.
