New car buyers interested in the 2022 Subaru Forester will need to wait, with the brand confirming it has sold out in Australia.

An update to the marque’s local consumer website states the model-year 2022 Forester is currently unavailable for purchase, with local allocation exhausted across each of the popular medium SUV’s model range.

“MY22 Forester has now sold out,” said a spokesperson for Subaru Australia.

“Interested customers are encouraged to speak to their local Subaru retailer about registering their interest for the upcoming MY23 Forester.”

The updated Subaru Forester is expected to launch in the second half of 2022, although the brand is yet to confirm timing or specification changes.

A facelifted version of the Forester launched in Australia less than 12 months ago for model-year 2022, meaning few changes are expected for MY23 versions.

Japanese variants are available with a new 1.8-litre turbocharged petrol engine – shared with the domestic market Levorg, badged WRX Sportswagon in Australia – although the range is likely to remain familiar in Australia, consisting of a 2.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol and 2.0-litre petrol-electric hybrid.

However, cost adjustments can be expected following Subaru’s recent price hikes across the BRZ, Outback, Impreza and XV line-ups.

The now-unavailable 2022 Subaru Forester could be had with the choice of seven variants, starting from $35,990 before on-road costs for the entry-level 2.5i AWD and stretching to $47,190, plus on-roads, for the flagship Hybrid S AWD.

VFACTS data shows Subaru sold 564 examples of the Forester during April 2022, a decrease of 57.5 per cent over the same month in 2021.
