Wheels’ January edition is headlined by two of the most hotly anticipated first drives of 2023.
First up is the Honda Civic Type R, out to establish itself as the world’s greatest front-drive performance car. Our test on both road and circuit provides the answer.
Then there’s the new Mercedes-AMG C63, a car that’s radically changed from its predecessor, with greater breadth of ability and performance on a whole new level. But will fans of the old twin-turbo V8 embrace it?
Our first drive of the VW Amarok 4x4 dual-cab ute reveals it to have its own clear identity, rather than simply being a clone of the Ford Ranger with which it was co-developed.
We’ve also driven the Lexus RZ450e, the Japanese premium brand’s medium-size electric SUV, to see if it pushes any boundaries for this segment.
On a more pragmatic level, we’ve pitted the new Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid against three of its small-SUV rivals: the Honda HR-V, Kia Niro and Mazda CX-30.
We also visit the Hot Wheels design studio to learn just how much time and attention to detail goes into the creation of these model cars, while former Wheels editor Dylan Campbell pulls the cover off his classic Toyota AE86 and pits it against the new GR86, to see if this pair of rear-drive coupes share any common DNA.
All this and much more in the January issue of Wheels on sale from Monday 16th January.
